Long-ago boyfriend, another summer-love, introducing me to the wide world outside of my hometown. He was the first guy I said “No, I don’t want to be friends” to. “Friends don’t hurt one another. If you’re dumping me, then Get Lost”. I’d discovered Germaine Greer the same summer.

Germaine Greer is probably better known in Europe than US, but authored The Female Eunuch, major feminist manifesto... probably equivalent to Betty Friedan.
